River Landing, Meewasin Valley & Downtown
Saskatoon's South Saskatchewan River curves through the heart of the city and the Meewasin Valley Authority has developed one of the finest urban river trail networks in Canada — 80 km of paths accessible from multiple downtown entry points. River Landing on 19th Street is the redeveloped south bank with the Remai Modern Gallery, outdoor amphitheatre, and riverfront café culture. The Broadway Bridge and the Traffic Bridge offer the classic Saskatoon skyline view. The historic Broadway Avenue neighbourhood has been the city's artistic and café district for 40 years.
Remai Modern Gallery & University of Saskatchewan
The Remai Modern ($15) opened in 2017 on the South Saskatchewan riverbank and is now considered one of the finest contemporary art museums in Canada — the permanent collection includes the world's largest collection of Picasso linocuts and outstanding Indigenous contemporary art. The University of Saskatchewan's campus (10 minutes south) has fine Collegiate Gothic architecture and the Gordon Oakes Redbear Student Centre, a remarkable building honouring Treaty 6.
Wanuskewin Heritage Park
Wanuskewin Heritage Park ($20, 5 km north of the city) is a National Historic Site protecting 6,000 years of Northern Plains Indigenous history — bison pounds, medicine wheels, and a winter encampment site all within a river valley in continuous Indigenous use since the last ice age. The interpretive centre hosts hoop dancing, bannock making, and tipi-raising demonstrations in summer. The gallery of Indigenous art within the interpretive centre is excellent.
Diefenbaker Canada Centre & Western Development Museum
The Diefenbaker Canada Centre ($6, on the U of S campus) preserves the personal and political papers of John Diefenbaker, 13th Prime Minister — his 1958 election win remains the largest majority in Canadian history. The Western Development Museum ($14, Airport Drive) traces Prairie settlement from 1890 through the boomtown era — the 1910 main street replica is the most complete of its kind.
Farmers' Market, Riversdale & Departure
The Saskatoon Farmers' Market (Broadway and Avenue P, Wednesdays and Saturdays) is the social heart of the city on weekday mornings — Prairie grain bread, local honey, saskatoon berry preserves, and extraordinary local cheesemakers. The Riversdale neighbourhood west of downtown is undergoing a creative transformation — indigenous-owned businesses and new restaurants along 20th Street West. Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport is 10 km from downtown.
