Privacy Policy

Last updated: 22 May 2026 · Effective date: 22 May 2026 · First published: 1 September 2024

All Canada ("we," "us," "our," the "Publisher") is committed to protecting the privacy of every person who visits www.allcanada.ca (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains, in plain language, what personal information we collect when you use the Site, how we use it, the third parties we share it with, the cookies and similar technologies we deploy, the legal grounds we rely on, the rights you can exercise under Canadian and international privacy law, and how to reach our Privacy Officer in Toronto.

This policy applies to the Site only. It does not cover websites we link to from our editorial pages, third-party advertisements displayed on the Site (each governed by the advertiser's or ad network's own privacy notice), or services operated by partners we may refer you to. The policy is written to satisfy the disclosure expectations of Canadian law (PIPEDA and, where applicable, Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector as amended by Law 25), the European Union and United Kingdom General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR and UK GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), and Google's Publisher Policies for sites carrying Google AdSense advertising.

1. Who we are and how to reach our Privacy Officer

Typical response time: within 5 business days for acknowledgement; substantive responses within 30 days as required by PIPEDA

2. The categories of personal information we collect

We collect only the personal information needed to operate the Site, respond to readers, understand how the Site is used, and serve relevant advertising. The categories below describe what is collected, from whom, and through which technology.

2.1 Information you give us directly

When you contact us through the form on the Contact page or by emailing [email protected], you supply your name, your email address, the subject category you selected, and the message body. If you choose to share additional context (a URL, a photograph attached to a correction, a screenshot for an accessibility report), that content is also collected. Newsletter sign-ups, if and when offered, collect your email address and the date and confirmation source for the subscription.

2.2 Information collected automatically through your browser and device

When you load a page on the Site, our web server and our analytics provider record technical information about the request. This includes your Internet Protocol (IP) address, the user-agent string identifying your browser, your operating system, the device category (mobile, tablet, desktop), your screen resolution, the language preference your browser advertises, the country and region your IP is associated with (resolved to city level at the coarsest, not to a street address), the referring URL that sent you to us, the page you requested, the time of the request, the response code and bytes transferred, and the search terms you used if you arrived via a search engine that passes them.

This information is logged for security, abuse-prevention, capacity-planning and editorial-analytics purposes. We do not attempt to identify individual readers from server-log entries and we do not combine server-log data with any contact details you provide.

2.3 Information collected via cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by your browser when you visit a website. We use cookies set by All Canada itself ("first-party cookies"), cookies set by Google's analytics and advertising systems ("third-party cookies" placed in our context), and a small number of similar technologies (local storage entries for site preferences, pixel tags within emails if we send them, the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework signal where applicable). A full per-cookie list, with names, providers, purposes and retention durations, lives on the Cookie Policy page.

2.4 Information we never collect

We do not ask for, collect, or process special categories of personal data (racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, trade-union membership, genetic or biometric data, health data, sex life or sexual orientation), social-insurance numbers or other government identifiers, banking or credit-card details (we do not take payments on the Site), precise GPS location data, or microphone or camera data from your device. No personal information is bought from data brokers, scraped from third-party platforms, or imported from outside sources.

3. Cookies and similar tracking technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies for three discrete purposes, each described below.

Strictly necessary cookies keep the Site working — they remember your cookie-consent choice, your decision to dismiss any informational banners, your dark- or light-mode preference, and the state of menus you have opened. These cookies are not used for tracking and cannot be disabled without breaking site functionality. They expire either when you close your browser or after a maximum of twelve months.

Analytics cookies are set by Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-JLTZQJBNWZ). They help us understand which pages readers find useful, where readers come from, and how the Site performs technically. We have enabled IP anonymisation, set the data-retention window to fourteen months, disabled signals that combine analytics with Google's advertising graph, and disabled Google's advertising features in our Analytics property.

Advertising cookies are set by Google AdSense (publisher ID ca-pub-4954126923275910) and by other certified Google advertising partners through Google's open-bidding and Ad Manager exchanges. These cookies, including the DoubleClick DART cookie and the Google IDE cookie, allow Google and its partners to serve advertising that may be tailored to your previous browsing if you have consented to personalisation. The advertising cookies are not set by All Canada directly; they are set by Google's advertising infrastructure operating in our advertising slots. A current list of Google's certified advertising partners is published at support.google.com/admanager/answer/9012903.

You can refuse non-essential cookies through the cookie-preference banner shown on your first visit, change your mind later via the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer, configure your browser to refuse all cookies, or opt out of Google's personalised advertising at adssettings.google.com. Industry-wide opt-out tools are listed in Section 5.

4. Google AdSense, advertising partners and how interest-based ads work

The Site is funded primarily by display advertising served by Google AdSense. Google AdSense and its partners use cookies and device identifiers to serve advertising based on a combination of contextual signals (the topic of the page you are reading), coarse geographic and device signals, and where you have given consent, your previous activity on this Site and on other sites within Google's advertising ecosystem. This is commonly called "personalised" or "interest-based" advertising.

As required by Google's Publisher Policies, we disclose the following:
